-
I am planning to learn one or few of the following technologies, I am searching for an IT job, I am an under graduate fresher. Please tell me which of the following has high demand in the corporate IT industry. The Database technologies are: Apache Derby DB2 Firebird Microsoft SQL Server MySQL Oracle PostgreSQL SQLite

Answer:
First of all, I would not classify them as different database technologies, since they are all relational database management systems (RDBMS). There are other types of databases which would fall into a different type of technology, and you can read about such at the following web page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Database Or even read about a large list of RDBMS at the following: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_relational_database_management_systems As to which of the DBMS that you listed are in the most demand, that depends on several factors. Your initial question only asked about the "IT industry", but within your details you stated "corporate IT industry". (Where "corporate" is only a portion of the whole "IT industry".) These are two different things with separate answers. If you want to read a quick comparison of data management systems, then the following web page may be of interest: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_relational_database_management_systems Overall, I would say that MS-Access, MS-SQL, MySQL, Apache, and Oracle are the five most used database systems when you look at all environments. That includes web, small business, corporate, etc... If you learn to use just these three: MS-SQL, Oracle, and Apache. Then you will not have any problems using all of the others that exist. .

If you're talking corporate IT, Oracle, SQL Server and DB2 are probably your best bets (in that order) unless you are intending to work as a webmaster in an intranet or company web site. In that case, MySQL is probably also a contender (tho likely one of the other three is also in use as the corporate back end which feeds the server database.)
