Can you recommend a web design company that can create databases?

I have some experience building websites, but I'm far from being an expert. You have to start somewhere and I can build some nice static sites, but would like to add some php/mysql functionality. Specifically I would like to allow visitors to (1) sign up as members, (2) create a main profile page for themselves like social media sites do, and (3) allow them to contact each other through the website by private messaging so that there's no sharing of personal email accounts. I'm wondering if I can save money by building the static components myself, but it's my impression that web design companies would want to build the whole site and not just add to one. Any thoughts, ideas, or recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks!

There are a lot of good agencies out there. You could even look on a few sites like peopleperhour, or elancer to find an individual developer. After looking at some of the middle of the road agencies (good overall design and development agencies with resonable prices) went with these guys - http://www.born4digital.com, they have a lot of their work on show too.

I think your requirement for your project is quite normal any good developer can do this job easily. If you want to create the front end, just create it and you can give it to developer who will add functionality to it and integrate it with a database.

You can get http://stringsofsound.com/ to build your website for you, they built mine ( http://universityreviews.ca ) for a great price and I am really happy with the result.

1 and 3 - easy, pre-made scripts are available for this. 2 - you haven't made it clear what you want. 'Like social media sites do' isn't really enough for what you want. You have two options: make it SPECIFICALLY CLEAR what you want a web company would provide for a visitor. Or you can learn to program it yourself, which would probably be a piece of cake give or take a few security scripts. No web company is going to put up with you unless you make your objectives crystal clear. Don't bother telling me - tell yourself. A small-scale project before your big project sounds like a better idea, dip your foot in the water before jumping in the pool.
