What is the video format for usb/dvd player?

What format does video need to be in to be played on a dvd player?

  • All my video is in .avi format, and I was just checking to see what format I need to convert it to so that it will play on a standard DVD player. I've already downloaded a free video to DVD converter, but still waiting on some additional things to download before I can use it. So in the meantime, I have some other software I'd like to try, just need to know the answer to the above question.
