    They are not more expensive. Your just looking at the wrong ebooks :).There are tons of ebook only authors (not associated with the big publishers) that charge only between $1-3 dollars for ebooks and they are just as good as the stories produced by the "big publishers" that charge the big bucks Here are a couple of good examples: http://www.shoppersource.net/goto/kindle_seaborn_trilogy http://www.shoppersource.net/goto/kindle_on_the_island But when you buy the more mainstream books, like harry potter, then your having to pay the publishers middle man fees. And many of the above types of ebooks are not even available on physical books, so without an ebook reader you can't take advantage of the deal. Next if your local library supports overdrive, you can rent tons of commercial ebooks for free. My local library has thousands of commercial ebooks that amazon charges $10-20 for, which I can get for free as much as I want. Then also keep in mind that with an ebook reader you can carry hundreds of ebooks in a tiny space, keeping your whole collection with you on the go. Anyways I don't think you should feel cheated since kindles are great.

If you want an e-reader the answer is yes. If you're not sure about an e-reader just consider the books on the kindle are much cheaper than from a book store (new books can be as cheap as 1/3 the price of a book store) also it is lighter and more manageable than carrying a book and you can change font size. However you can't share the book with friends (without giving up your kindle of course). So I would say if you're thinking of an e-reader Kindle is the best one I've seen
