Attn USA or iPhone Geniuses - I am wanting to buy an iPhone in USA and bring it back to Australia with me.?
-
I am looking at going on holidays to Los Angeles and am wanting an iPhone 3gs, but over here in Australia they are around $1000 AUD which is too expensive for me to spend on an iPhone. But then i saw in the apple store US had the iphone 3gs for only $199 USD which would only work out to about $250 AUD. I am wanting to buy this when i go over there but i have encountered a few problems. 1. Can i buy the iPhone 3gs from USA as i dont have a USA social security number? 2. How can i buy it without the at&t account? 3. If 2. not possible - Can i just buy it with a cheap prepaid account? 4. If i bring it over to australia - will the warranty still work? 5. Is there any way to unlock the iPhone 3gs so i can use australian phone companies without jailbreaking? I KNOW THIS IS A REALLY COMPLEX QUESTION BUT PLEASE HELP ME AND I PROMISE THE BEST ANSWER I GET WILL GET BONUS POINTS THANKYOU PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!

Answer:
It's not at all complex. $199 is the price WITH an AT&T contract which you can't get because you are not a US resident. You can buy one on eBay but you'll be paying close to what it will cost you at home. The 3gs is not sold at retail without a contract. A US iPhone would have to be unlocked to work in Australia. You must jailbreak to unlock. The warranty would be voided.

You can buy the phone unactivate but you will be paying the full retail price for the phone, this will allow you to get it without signing an att account. The only way that you could "possibly" get it cheaper is on ebay, and most of those phones are still contract required. If you buy the phone through a retailer it is not possible to jailbreak and unlock the phone to work on another carrier because the current baseband is locked tight and has not been hacked. Over all your best bet is to go on ebay and find a phone that is already jailbroken and has a baseband that can be used on another SIM card supported carrier, other than that your out of luck.
