What is this symbol on my Blackberry Pearl?

Blackberry pearl trouble. what does red "off" mean in corner of screen?

• Boss owns a blackberry pearl. he has been having toruble with it..not getting emails etc. after everything was fine. I don't se blackberry, and yet have been assigned ot fix it. On the main desktop screen there is the word "off" written in red font with a symbol which looks like a funnel next to it. according to my boss this is not normally there, and therefore the likely culprit for his difficulties, but I have no idea what this signifies, or how to remove it. If any experienced pearl users can help me with this i would be very grateful, as he is leaving on a business trip tomorrow and needs his blackberry fnctioning.

  That means that the antenna is turned off. They make this setting so you can turn off the antenna in an airplane or something without actually turning the entire device off. I'm not exactly how to get it back on, but if you look through the connection settings you should be able to turn it back on.
