Should I get an Android or iPhone?
-
I bought a Nokia N97 two years ago and have been largely disappointed by it. It seems like everybody I know has an iPhone 4, but my more "techie" mates have Android phones. I own(ed) an iPod that like all/most iPods is dying a slow death after 3 years of ownership and I own a MacBook and, whilst I like my MacBook, I definitely preferred my old mp3 player (Creative Jukebox Zen) to my iPod...iTunes just seems so restrictive. I have thousands of songs on my old iPod and on my computer and I'd like to keep them in a single device i.e. iPhone or Android...so really, I need to know why I should choose one or the other. I've done a bit of reading around the subject and the consensus is that iPhones are "cool" but restricted (in terms of software compatibility and telecomms networks) whereas Androids are little bit more "free and easy". (BTW: I'm in the UK so answers specific to UK would be preferable rather than talk of the drawbacks to AT&T etc). I just feel like within a few years, the iPhones will be the norm, and all apps etc will be designed with iPhones in mind and it'll be a case of "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em" Can anybody provide me with more insight? In layman's (i.e. non-techie) terms?

Answer:
I have an iPhone and my mom has an Android. I use both, and I would say it depends on what you want to do. iPhone definitely beats the android as far as number of available apps, and more memory space. Yes, android SD memory cards are expandable, but they can become pricey if you want to get 16gb/32gb SD memory cards (if they even offer them?). The android is a HTC ISW11HT, and the screen is significantly larger than iPhone so it makes viewing videos much better and typing is a breeze, the on screen keyboard on the iphone is tiny. The Android and also has WiMAX (which is faster than 3G) so it gets about 10mbps download speed, my iPhone only gets about 1.6mbps. As far as widgets, its not something that would determine if I would get an Android over the iPhone, iPhone has no issues telling me the time, showing me the calender, the weather, etc., it just requires 1 click of the screen and I can see it. If I get a new email, my iPhone will tell me. Widgets sometimes use up some battery life and processing speed from your phone since it is constantly running in the background. My moms android's battery drains significantly quicker than my iPhone, even if theyre both just sitting there for a day not being used. Also, with the Android there are significantly more problems with apps, since there are so many models available for the Android unlike iPhone which is just 1 model. Ive never had problems with Applications on my iPhone, but Android apps will freeze all the time or even the phone itself will freeze, requiring a reboot. 1 thing I don't like about the iPhone is that you cant switch batteries, and surfing the web and watching movies drains your battery life, the android (and im sure other models) can easy swap batteries. Some androids can't send SMS, its like text messages, but if you have a smartphone you can just use email. So I guess in my opinion, I don't see why I should switch to the android from the iPhone. It's really just one of those where people will recommend what they already have. I would say go with what plan fits your needs the most, and then decide whether you want to get an iPhone or Android (or if u need a smartphone at all, most people who have iPhones dont even know how to use it to its full potential) As far as camera quality, that depends on the phone, not whether it's an Android or not. Android is just the name of the operating system/platform. My friend's REGZA is an android and it takes amazing pictures I think 16megapixels, can watch TV on it, and has "beauty mode" where it fixes blemishes and unwanted spots and coloring on your face.

Android. I have the LG apex from us cellular and I love it! It comes with an SD card so you can put that in your laptop and burn it all on to there from iTunes. Also there is an app called MP3 ringtones and you can getfree full length songs, unlike the iPhone.

Hi.Android is simply the best and better then all the best.Android phones out beat iphone by far in so many ways. I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend getting an android based phone.
ANDROID
Well, let me just say first that I have an HTC Desire and I love it, so bias declared. Because there's basically just one iphone and lots of different models for android, comparing the two can be difficult. But, here's some stuff to consider: -If you will be sticking with iTunes, iPhone is the clear winner when it comes to music. If you want to get away from iTunes, Android is perfectly capable of handling your music library, and an added bonus is that the memory is expandable (you can buy a bigger memory card) for most Android phones, so if you run out of space it's not a big deal. -If you want a phone that will just work as soon as you take it out of the box and you don't have to fiddle with it, pick iPhone. If you want a phone that you can customize exactly to your own tastes and preferences, go Android. For example, with iPhone you have those screens filled with app icons. With Android, you can use "widgets" to access apps from your phone's main screens, making the look and usability of the phone much more customizable. -I wouldn't worry about iPhones becoming the norm and all apps being designed for them. In the past, this has been the case; however now there are more Android users than iPhone users, so I believe that trend is changing. You can find an app for pretty much anything you need on the Android Market: https://market.android.com/ -I will say that the one place I feel the iPhone really beats my Android is the camera. The megapixels are the same but the camera on the iPhone just takes sharper, better looking photos. Hopefully this has or will change with the newer models. -Finally, not all Android devices are created equal. I'm not that impressed with the Samsung phones, but both myself and my boyfriend have HTC (different models). We are both heavy phone users and have not regretted our choice in the slightest. So, if you do decide to go Android, I strongly recommend checking out the HTC devices.
