Pantech Duo without Data package?

I was looking for a few slider phones and I saw the Pantech Duo, it was really nice. But when I asked the sales rep. they said you need a data package for the internet. You have to buy the data package even if your not using the internet! They said all smart phones and PDA's need a datapackage when you buy now. Can I find a place where I can buy a Pantech Duo with out a data package?? (data package costs $30 a month) please help!!
Answer:

I just signed a new contract with AT&T & ended up purchasing the Pantech Duo. I did not need to buy a data package. They just charge me for whatever data usage I have each month. I don't go on the internet on my phone very often so I don't end up getting charged a lot, but I am still able to get online if I need to.
