What is the difference between Navigation and GPS navigation?

Is there a difference between a GPS and a navigation system? if yes what is it?

  • Answer:

Dear Elmer, Navigation systems were used for the early days of history, one of the oldest navigation systems were following the directions as given by the sun and stars. Other instruments were invented as navigation became more advanced when ships started traveling across long distances. The GPS is a modern type of navigation system using satellites and transmitters for this purpose. Lord...still not the answer you are looking for. It has to basically with the number of sensors in the GPS unit that allow for a faster location fixand update on you. As you can imagine lower priced and older phones take a little bit longer to find and track you compared to new more expensive phones.

the first GPS were strictly a Longitude and latitude indicator. later they added area maps. They tell you where you are. navigation systems do GPS one better. They help you get where you want to go.

A GPS just gives you (the coordinates) of the place you are (longitude, latitude and altitude) at that/ a certain moment. A navigationsystem is based on GPS and is able to tell you were you are at a certain moment and how to navigate to a place you want to go.
