Can I get a Blackberry without all the extra features?

  • I heard that if you get a Blackberry, you have to pay extra for all of the extra features. Can I just get a Blackberry without all the features? Basically, I want a Blackberry that will call and text. Yes, I do know that it defeats the whole purpose of getting a Blackberry device but that's besides the point. Can I get a Blackberry without all the extra features? If I can't get it without the features, will it cost extra for all the other features?

    Verizon does not allow you to have a Blackberry without getting a data plan. There is no way around this through them. The data plan is an additional $29.99/mo on top of your voice plan charges.

Yes the phone will work just fine without the data services. Of course you lose a lot of the functionality of the phone. The data features cost between $9.99 for email on Tmobile to $60 for Business (BES) access on ATT. Verizon however is quite expensive, expect to add around $30-40 to your voice plan.

Verizon has a contract with RIM (the maker of BlackBerry and provider of the service) that requires any users of BlackBerry devices to purchase a BlackBerry data plan. There are other carriers where this is not required, but Verizon does require it at this time for new BlackBerry activations. The cost of their cheapest BlackBerry data plan is $30 per month on top of your calling and messaging plan.

Yes. I have the BlackBerry Pearl with Sprint and I don't have a data package. It does differ from company to company though. I text, call, and occasionally use the internet. without the data plan I just have to pay for the kilobytes i used while connected to the internet. It really doesn't defeat the purpose of getting a BB just cuz you don't want all the features.. It's GREAT for texting, and the built-in MP3 player is cool! I hope that helps even though I don't have Verizon :o)
