Does anyone have a Palm Treo 700W? What is your opinion of the device?
-
Thanks for all of the answers on transfering data from the palm format to the windows format. With that settled, I want a new pda/phone. I have a Palm Treo 600 that I got 18 months ago. It dropped calls constantly so I eventually gave up and got a cell phone and used the Treo 600 as just a pda. I'm a glutton for punishment and now I'm looking at the new Palm Treo 700W and thinking about giving it a try. Does anyone have an opinion on this device? Is the Palm Treo 650, Palm 700P, or Samsung SCH-i730 a better choice? I plan to buy a bluetooth earpiece and palm has a Wi-Fi SD card attachment for $99. My pda is my life. I have a horrible memory so I have all of my numbers and addresses on it. I live by my to-do lists and I even keep my grocery list on my PDA. I have all of notes for work and school in my memo pad. I also play games on my PDA. I have monopoly, Texas Holdem, Tetris, and Chess on my PDA. This is a very important tool and it is critical that it works.

I just upgraded from treo 600 to 700w and I am happy ... very happy. I have a PPC pda before, but the 700w is way better. It is faster, and more stable. There are some gives and takes comparing to the 600 as far as user friendliness, but then are not the same OS, so ... Down side is that from Verizon, you must subscribe for data, that is either $25 or $50 per month on top of you voice line. But email, internet connection is very fast. Another thing is that the display is the smallest it could get. It was my concern before, but I am used to the 600, so not hard to accept the 320X320 res. Not happy, but I choose this over other PDA ... even the Motorola Q. I have had the device for two weeks. It crashed twice. Hey, the 600 crashes also, and you wont know it when it happens. With the 700w, you know it when it happens. 5 seconds to reset it. I have yet to try the wifi, that to me, may cut down the wireless data usage so I will not over use the data line that will cost me more than the $25 I have to pay monthly.

I have tried the Palm Treo product and like the utilities... My problem is they seem to be very fragile. I went through several and after returning them or buying a new one. I asked a technician what to get. I was told that for durability go to a blackberry. I switched to a blackberry and have had zero problems. It has been dropped, scratched and anused and has no functionality problems. The 700w and 700p are great products if you don't abuse a phone like I do. No problem with dropped calls or connectivity. If you want functionality go Treo 700. If you wan't durability go blackberry.

The major difference between the Palm and Window OS is the amount of clicking you do, to do the same thing. It's kind of annoying if you're used to doing things simpler. I would not go from a Palm 650 to a 700w. It's not worth it. But you have a Treo 600 which in another 6 months, the battery might start to loose it life span and not be able to hold a charge. I would consider the 700p and not have to go through the process of switching from Palm to Windows. I'm not familiar with the Samsung device to comment.

I've had the Treo 600 since it came out and have no problems with it. My wireless provider is Cingular. I did upgrade the operating system a couple times and talked with technical support to workout the bugs when I first purchased it. I looked at most of the reviews of the Treo 650, Treo 700w, and Treo 700p, and decided to go with the Treo 700p from Cingular (codename "Hollywood"). I have the Treo 650 great phone, no problems with dropped calls. The Treo 700 has faster OS software, but that is the major difference between the 650 and 700
