Is there anyone who can tell me how to fix my nintendo ds?
-
I have an old nintendo ds (not lite). I was recently in a car accident and the top screen cracked. I was wondering if there is a way to fix this other than sending it to nintendo. It isn't under warranty. The insurance company gave me enough money to buy a new so I now have a ds lite, but would like to fix this one for my son. He can still play gba games but would like to be able to play ds games. I know nintendo could fix for 70 but would like to do myself or have someone nearby do it. I live in the buffalo ny area

There are some tutorials to fix a broken top screen. http://www.instructables.com/id/EEHD3YRF22FIBPZ/ http://site.powergamingparts.com/RepairNDS.html You will need a special screwdriver: http://powergamingparts.com/nintendo-ds-screwdriver.html And of course you will need a new top screen: http://www.modchipstore.com/NDS-DS-Nintendo-TFT-LCD-Screen-Repleacement-Screen-16367.html (They are out of stock it seems. You might have to do some searching for this). The screen that the other commentor linked to is only a replacment for scratches. If it is cracked as you describe it, I don' t think it will solve your problem. Even if you don find one, it is still a bit of a tough install and it could end up damaging the system completely. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

That's the link for the screen cover, not the screen in that last answer, I assure you it would be far More then 3.99 for a replacement LCD. You need a security screwdriver and moderate knowledge of consumer electronics repair before I would attempt such an endeavor, you need a replacement LCD which probably won't be much cheaper then sending it in for repair so that's what I would suggest, LCD's are very fragile and the ribbon cable attached to them is even more fragile so I would in your position leave it to a skilled technician.

if the top screen is cracked then you can buy replacement kits. however if the screen doesnt come one at all then its toast and must be repaired by a profesional. heres where you can buy the replacement kit http://store.nintendo.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?lastAction=setCurr&jspStoreDir=NOASTORE&languageId=-1&catalogId=10001&categoryId=58694&productId=83650¤cy=USD&storeId=10001&ddkey=ProductCheck
