How do i connect my dsi xl to the internet in my house?

• i have internet which i connect to my labtop.but i also have a router.ive set up the router and the internet.but i cant get internet connection on my dsi.the internet and router are supposed to hold up to 8 devices.when i search on my dsi the connection comes up and says i cant do it and ill have to do advanced set up.i did advanced set up and it was succesful but when i get on pokemon to go online and trade it still doesnt let me.what do i do?
