  • Answer:

Most cellphone service providers give you up to 10MB of storage space for your messages on their server, depending on what service plan you have, which I think makes the storage capacity of the phone irrelevant. Nevertheless, according to Wikipedia, a typical text message (which is sms in US - link to this article below) is about 190 bytes in length - if I am reading the article correctly and did the math right (I hope!), you should be able to store over 5,000 typical text messages in 1MB of memory. This phone comes with 5MB of built-in memory. It also has a micro sd card slot which allows you to add up to an additional 2GB of memory (Tmobile gives you a 1GB micro SD card when you get this phone from them - otherwise, I believe the standard Nokia package includes a 128MB micro SD card - I wanted to get the maximum potential from this device so I purchased a Kingston 2GB micro SD card from Amazon.com for less than $25 and am very happy with it). By default, all music, photos, videos, wallpaper, themes, screensavers, text messages and voice mail messages are stored in the 5MB of built-in memory - fortunately you can easily change the phone's settings to store some (or almost all of this) on the micro SD card instead. I store all my music, photos and videos on the micro SD card and only store around 2MB of wallpapers, screensavers and themes in the built-in memory which leaves me 1.7MB for voice mails and text messages (allowing for phones operating software) - which I find to be more than adequate. I back up everything to my pc also. Note that you can check available and used memory at any time in the settings menu of this phone. I have never tried to download music using bluetooth because I feel the bluetooth protocol (even bluetooth 2.0) is still not sufficiently reliable, but theoretically this should work so long as your service provider's network and cell plan supports it (ask them) and as long as you specify the download to go from/to the micro SD card. An easier and better option would be to connect the phone to your computer using the USB cord included with the phone and copy/send music to and from the phone using the pc - which is what I do! On sound quality, I have not listened to the Nokia N72, but I can verify that the sound quality of music played through the Nokia 5300 is truly stellar and infinitely superior to any other music cellphone I have ever heard or heard of (except for certain of the Sony Walkman models which are supposedly just as good), and I did a lot of research on this subject before buying. Nokia includes a nice set of earbuds and a headphone adapter jack so instead of the earbuds you can use your favorite pc or cd player headphones with this device it you like - sweet! You can check other users opinions on this phone at CNET - see link below. Hope this helps!
