    PDA or Personal Digital Assistant is like a pocket digital addressbook, calendar and, before the arrival of smartphones, added the functionality to open documents and play music (mp3, wavs, etc.) to become, literally as, a pocket computer which does most of what you can do with the real computer except that it has a small screen and some limitations. While Smartphones on the otherhand are typical celphones with advanced features, integrates PDAs capability with a cellphone so 1 will have to carry only 1 device to have access to his celphone, addressbook, calendar, digital camera, create, reada and edit documents, check e-mails, surf the web and much more. So to say, PDA is the predecessor of Smartphones which only integrates call and messaging capability of cellular phones.

A PDA is a miniature computer that uses Windows Mobile ver xxxx as it's basic operating system, together with an email client and other cut-down versions that you would normally find on a PC. On the other hand, a Smart Phone is basically a more sophisticated cell phone with far less capability than a PDA. Smart phones generally have keypads, whereas PDA's have touch screens and may also have full PC type keyboards. A PDA also allows you to browse the internet proper whereas smart phones are usually but not always limited to your SP's "Intranet". There is also quite a large price difference.
