Will AT&T charge me for using the wifi on the Blackberry Bold?

Will AT&T charge me if I use the WiFi on my Blackberry Bold if I don't have a Data Plan?

  • I have the new Blackberry Bold 9700 that comes with WiFi. I do not have the Data Plan on this phone & was wondering if I used the WiFi, will At&t charge me as if I am using their data plan?

NO. WIFI was added to smartphones for the purpose of people being able to get FREE internet service through hotspots and such. If you're at mcdonalds and you get a wifi signal its because its coming from another source, your company doesn't charge you for that, its a great perk!

Using WiFi will not charge your phone bill because you are using a different ISP aka Internet Service Provider. Just make sure you are connected to it properly.

As long as you're not connecting to an ATT hotspot with that wifi, you won't get charged for using wifi. The 9700, however, is a smartphone. If ATT detects that you are using a smartphone without a data plan, they will put a dataplan on your account. Whether you want it or not.

ioerr is correct. ATT will catch on eventually and they will force the data package onto the phone bill. Just hope they dont back date the charges.
