What age is appropriate to get a Blackberry?

  • Hey! This is a pole that I've decided to do, because I am a proud Blackberry owner, who was astounded to find her 11 year old cousin got a Blackberry Torch for Christmas. 8O I know right! Okay, so I own the Blackberry Bold 9700 in white, and I asked her "What did you get for Christmas?" and she whips out her Red blackberry Torch and says "A Blackberry Torch." and I'm just staring at her going "Oh really. Uh huh." and she says "Do you have a Blackberry? Add me on BBM" and I was like "ummm." So now I'd like to know. What age did you get, or what age is appropriate to get, a Blackberry? Here are the age groups: 10-12 13-14 15-16 17-18 19+ Please, I'd like to know. (Oh, and I still haven't added her on BBM) -lizzie

    No teenager should need a blackberry (that includes the person who asked this question). They're smartphones designed and advertised for work and a social life; and a teenager does not have either of these (well, not a real social life like in college). Smartphones are not marketed for a teenage crowd. So although a lot of people from 13-14+ have them, it should be 19+. When I say teenager I mean somebody still in school, not college.

So funny I am 23 and in the medical filed and have a BB. My cousin got one for xmas this year and did the same exact thing. I think it is insane. To waste 100 dollars a month on facebook and texting, and BBM. I think unless you are in college or working in the type of field that requires that type of connection, there is no need to have one. What does an 11 year old need that type of phone for? Play games and text? Please it's just a joke.

I would have to say either 13 -14 or 15 - 16. But I think it really depends on the person. I definitely wouldn't give a Blackberry to an irresponsible 11 year old.
