How to Restore iPhone 4?

How to restore iPhone 4 without losing jailbreak?

  • My iPhone 4 is jailbroken, I sold it and it was advertised as being jailbroken but I didn't realize when I go to restore it to factory settings in order to erase all of my stuff, it makes you update the firmware. If I do this I won't be able to jailbreak it again before I send it to the buyer because to my knowledge there isn't a jailbreak for the newest firmware. Does anybody know a way around this? I did see a youtube video where you can put the phone in recovery mode while connected to itunes, hold down shift and restore at the same time and you can pull up a copy of the 5.0.1 firmware....blah blah also a long story but basically that didn't work for me. It said the 5.0.1 I had saved wasn't right or something. Anybody really good with iphone that could help me out? I just need to be able to jailbreak it again before I send it off

EDIT: No, Redsnow is a computer application not an iphone application. You can download it here http://www.redsn0w.us/2010/03/download-direct-links-jailbreak-guides.html get the latest one for your computer's operating system. Also download tiny umbreallah here http://thefirmwareumbrella.blogspot.com/ _______________________________________… You'll need to create a custom ipsw and then go into pwned dfu mode. To do this you need to download redsnow, and follow these steps: 1. Go to http://www.iphonefirmware.com/firmwares-download/ and download the appropriate 5.0.1 firmware 2. Go to tinyumbrellah and save ssh blob 3. Go to redsnow and click extra features and click "custom ipsw" 4. Once IPSW customization is done go to redsnow and click pwned dfu mode. 5. Follow the instructions on screen 6. Go to tinyumbrellah and turn on tss server. 7. After creating custom ipsw, you'll notice another ipsw that begins with NO_BB. Go to itunes hold shift if you own windows, hold option if you use mac and while holding it click restore. 8. Load the ipsw that begins with NO_BB. DO NOT use the original ipsw 9. Then wait for restore, 10. You will get an error and notice your phone is lit up but blank 11. Go to tinyumbrellah and click fix recovery. If your getting errors restoring. Try again at least one or two times. If not, follow the instructions in "blocked by configuration" in this article http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3297

you didn't mention whats your current firmware, did you update to 5.01 or to 5.1? if you updated to 5.1 than google redsn0w 9.10b5c and download it, extract and click jailbreak, follow the simple instruction, if you're on 5.0.1 than you will have an untehtered jailbreak, and if you're on 5.1 than you will have an tethered jailbreak, meaning that if you run out of battery or turn off ur phone, you will have to rerun this software and click extras, and select the just boot button. select as best answer if i answered ur Q

Clearly that is strange how you cannot "Erase all content and settings". Then it only leads to one conclusion, -Remove your apple ID -Remove any Cache -Remove any Cookies -Remove apps -*i guess keep cydia sources how it is* Pretty much do it manually!
