How do you smooth pictures?

How does my iPod know where I take my pictures, even when not connected to Wi-Fi?

  • Okay, so on an iPod 4th Generation, on your photo gallery you have the option to click places and see where your pictures were taken. What I'm wondering is, how does it know? All of the places were the pictures were taken I was not connected to Wi-Fi. The only place it should know where pictures are taken is my house, because I'm usually connected to Wi-Fi there. Other places, I'm not. It has little pin marks on the map showing me EXACTLY where I took the pictures. Like, the other day, I took pictures at school, no Wi-Fi; First I took some pictures in science, and the little pin was almost right on on top of where my science class is. Then I also took some pictures at the car riders bell, and the pin was literally right above where I was sitting. Or, at church no Wi-Fi. I took pictures in the lobby and the pin was on top of where the lobby is. Then I took pictures in the left wing of the church, and the pin was right there. How does it know where I am? I wasn't even connected to Wi-Fi. I mean, I could understand it knowing from me checking in to somewhere, but how does it place the pin exactly where I took the picture?

  • Answer:

Geotagging. Geotagging a picture does not require internet access, so this is why it is able to work, even without internet access. The iPod touch does not have GPS like the iPhone, but it uses a triangulation method to locate where you are, which again does not require internet access.
