ive played with an iPad before when my mom brought one home for work, i didnt get much time to explore its features, basically all i did was go on the internet and play with that dragon app. anyway my friend got the nook and its really cool. shes big on reading so she got that one, where as my dad wanted to get me an iPad instead of buying me a new laptop. Im just curious if you can buy and read books on the iPad as well as basically use it for a laptop. to my understanding it was made to be used for books.

Sure you can! You will have to buy most of the books, however (a few are free), just like the nook or kindle. Here are some apps you can look up for books: iBooks Kindle Borders Barnes and Nobles Any of these in the app search engine should find you some pretty decent book applications. You can even sync them with a nook, kindle, or other eReader you may have, depending on the app. Good luck!

There are several apps that allow you to read books which include kindle, nook and iBooks which is apple's book software and it will ask you if you want to download it as soon as you start using the iPad. iBooks has several books available including many classics (traditional school books) for free and if you get the kindle and nook apps as well, you can get pretty much every book. However, if you don't want to use it for books, you don't have to. The ipad is very accessible and personable. I just got mine for my birthday last week and I LOVE it.
