Will the blackberry 6 update for the bold 9700 slow down my phone?

hey i want to update my blackberry bold 9700 and put the blackberry 6 update on it but does anyone know if it will be good for my phone? does it cause any problems or make it slow down, take up alot of room and mess up the connection? And if i decide to update it willl it delete all my contacts on bbm
