Blackberry pearl with verizon?

hi. i want to order a blackberry pearl for verizon off of ebay. i have an lg chocolate now, so i don't have the data plan and i know verizon requires the blackberry data plan to activate the phone. so i was just wondering can i buy the phone and activate and just like agree to pay the monthly data plan charge? or do i have to like call the verizon place and switch my plan? i just want it to be as simple as possible. thanks

Call Verizon,Have them activate your Blackberry & tell them to add the $30 Blackberry internet/data package.
