What is the best e-book reader?

What is the best ebook reader that I can buy in stores?

  • (In other words, ebook readers apart from the Kindle). Requirements are PDF and txt compatible, and e-ink display. All suggestions welcome, thanks. :)

  • Answer:

Hey, Ethan, that would be Nook from Barnes & Noble that you can get in any Barnes & Noble store, BestBuy, Walmart, or any Books-A-Million store. Sony has never been a contender for any comparison by anyone as they only have like 50 books in their Ebook store and their devices are way overpriced. Borders is behind Kobo in US and as you might of heard, Borders is on a brink of bankruptcy. You can get Nook e-Ink 3G or Wi-Fi. 3G means the internet connection is included for free for the life of the device thus you can download a new book even when you're walking on the street. Wi-Fi means that you need to have access to wireless hotspot - examples would be any Barnes & Noble store that provides free Wi-Fi to Nook's or any Starbucks or any McDonalds or airport or any other place that provides free Wi-Fi service - to download eBooks. Again, it's only needed to download eBooks or browse the Internet. Once you downloaded the eBooks to your device, you don't need Internet connection to read them. There's over a million of free public ebooks as well as over a million of ebooks that you need to pay for available through Barnes & Noble eBook store. Prices are generally much lower than for physical books. Nook supports PDF's and txt's. Nook (unlike Kindle) can be used for library ebooks and for renting text-ebooks.

Actually, you can buy the Kindle in stores. Best Buy carries it and if you have one of those creepy Microsoft stores (like an apple store but not cool), they carry them too. Other places may also carry them but those are the two I've seen them in. Here's a link to a nice rundown of the pros and cons of the different readers. http://news.cnet.com/kindle-vs-nook-vs-ipad-which-e-book-reader-should-you-buy We have a Kindle. We very much like it. We have the standard, wi-fi one that sells for $139 on amazon. We also have an ipad, it's not as good to read on. It doesn't work in sunlight and it's sort of bulky. It's great for other things - don't get me wrong - we're huge apple fans and love it for other stuff but the Kindle is the ebook reader of choice. edit - you know what, I gave you the wrong link. This one, http://chamberfour.com/ereader-comparison/ gives info on a nice variety of readers. The one I originally linked to does not. Bad c/p job....

Passenger (wow widow)

Best Buy carries a variety of eBooks, including the Kindle.
