What is the feature called when you "press 2 to ---" or press 3 to speak to customer service agent, on a phone?

  • what is this called? my old house phone did this but now with our new phone, it doesnt let you press numbers what is this feature called so i can find it on a new phone ?

It is called IVR (interactive voice response). any phone with tone dialing should work with that. the capability of understanding the numbers being pressed by the IVR is called DTMF processing.
