What can I do exactly to change to Vonage?

Is it possible to port out my number from Vonage to Rogers?

  • I have a Vonage number (previously it was a Bell number, then I ported it to Vonage) but now I want to change providers and go to Rogers. I've called Rogers four times, and they told me that it is impossible to port my number from Vonage to Rogers. They haven't given me a concrete reason why this is not possible, only that once it goes to VOIP service, it is very hard to port it back to Rogers. So ... can I port out my number from Vonage to Rogers? If yes ... could you plz instruct me what to do or who to contact? As I said, I contacted Rogers four times and Vonage 1 time to inquire about this. Thanks!

  • Answer:

Technically and legally they can do it. When porting numbers, it is always up to your "new" service provider to initiate the porting process on your behalf. So, you have to come to an agreement with your new phone service provider to initiate the number porting on your behalf. You cannot terminate your old phone service before the porting process is completed moving to the new service provider. Only after your number is successfully ported to the new service can you terminate your old service. If you terminate your service with Vonage before successfully porting out your number, it cannot be done after the fact. Sometimes there are technical reasons, or jurisdiction reasons as to why the new service provider will not accomodate porting the old exchange phone number to their exchange service.
