Who has tried the magicJack?

Vonage, Skype or MagicJack. Has anyone tried them.. What do u think?

  • Answer:

I've used skype as my only home phone for 2 years. It works great! For $54/year I get a local phone number for people to call me & unlimited USA calling! I use a skype phone that plugs into my router so I don't have to leave my computer turned on to get & make calls. For travel I use a skype wifi phone. My home phone thus just travels with me. MagicJack, while cheaper, requires your computer to always be on. $19/year + $19 hardware. Vontage is ridiculously expensive! ($24.99/month)

I have all 3. (well, Packet8 instead of Vonage). I have a Skype phone, an old USB device that I seldom use. Even in the first days of Skype when Land line calls were free, I found it inconvenient to use. My VoIP lines (8x8, Ooma, Phone Power) sit in my office and control how my calls are routed and placed. My MagicJack goes on the road with me. If I had to rank the units and how I use them, I'd rate VoIP (both of mine) first, MJ second, anything else 3rd and Skype 4th. I guess because Skype has so much spam and is so unreliable, I just don't consider it real phone service. Carl

I currently use Vonage and an very satisfied. I use the Vonage at home and over my computer when I travel. They both work well.

out of your 3 choices... for quality, and not requiring your PC to be on - vonage for price magic jack... for PC to PC calls for free... or free toll free calls.. skype...
