Why won't my TIVO connect to my phone line?

I have one active phone line and a de-activated line,how can I change the de-activated line to the first line?

• the second phone line was turned off, now I just want to change it so I can use the jack for the second line into the original phone line. How can I do this? Basically I want to activate TIVO in one room that has a de-activated phone line from a second line that's not used anymore. I'd like to change that line to the only line that's working, so I can connect the TIVO

  Outside your home you will have a little grey box where the phone lines come off the pole. This is called you NID. There is a side only the telephone company can access and there is a side you can access. Use a screwdriver and open your side. You will see two sets of green and red screws. These are called your nid modules. There will be one for each number you "had". The one for the second number will still be there. There should be something designating which is which. Most likely a number imprinted in the plastic somewhere. Look for the one that says two and loosen the screw. Remove the wires from the screws. now loosen the screw from the one labeled with one. Wrap the wires you took off the two post in a clockwise direction and retighten the screw. Now all jack in you house will be that number. If you get no dialtone...then the other nid module was your main number and you will need to switch them again. The phone company can come out and do this for you but it is a chargeable service.
