Has anyone tried the magic jack for local and long distance phone service.?
-
I am looking for low cost phone service for local and long distance calls. I am a California resident who calls family in New York regularly.

Answer:
I have magic jack and I mostly use it when I'm at home during the day to keep my minutes free on my cell phone... Works great for me... The only draw backs are you need high speed internet and the PC needs to be left on... Also this can be taken on trips over seas and as long as you have access to a computer with high speed internet you can use this to call **back to the U. S.** for free... This is because you'll be given a U. S. phone number when you register the magic jack so you'll be calling from that U. S. number... And from a US number to another US number is free.... What cost money is if you use it while in a different country to call local numbers there or calling from the US to another country.... I have 2 PCs and a new laptop and I have it hooked up to my oldest PC with XP running only 512mb ram and it works fine with a cheap cordless phone...

MJ is not a totally releable VOIP service. They own their own small network.. You can get cut-offs, loss of service, echoes, etc.. You also need a very good working computer and high speed internet service for it to work properly. No customer service. Remember, you get what you pay for.!

Yes I own and have used the Magic Jack for long and local distant phone calls/service and its very easy to use and its very affordable for what it does. Its definitely a good buy.

I have it for business because it's free.talking to some one who is using a cell phone sucks.if it's clear at first then they move a little,i get 1 out of 5 words.talking to some one on a hard line isn't too bad if I don't have any thing running on my computer and if your on answers for instance and some one makes a call,it freezes.Very annoying.I also share the wifi off my router (i have ethernet cable to my comp) to 4 of my tenants so that may have something to do with reception. I have a good computer so it works okay but if you don't have the power, might not be a good investment.
