How do you block calls from public services?

Need a new home phone with filter/block option, please suggest a good and cheap one?

  • Hi there, sometimes i get annoying calls from people i don't want to talk to but can't block them, or at least i don't know how for my home phone, i tried looking through all the options possible but it only has a Caller ID option which i don't even know how to setup, i'm using a Uniden SSE15+1 as shown below: http://www.orb.co.nz/products-services/o... i looked through Google, looked through my manual and even contacted Uniden's website to ask how to setup the thing, so far i can't get any answers from the manual and got no reply from Uniden website yet. If someone could tell me how i can setup my home phone for Caller ID and most impotantly, a filter or block option, that would be awesome. If the block/filter option isn't possible, then please refer a good home phone that is cheap and has the filter/block option, thanks. Oh by the way what is POP ID? And also someone told me that i have to subscribe for extra services such as Caller ID etc from Telecom, is that true? I don't want to have to pay extra money for those services, especially the filter/blocking services, i'm sure there're home phones that has the feature built in, because my cellphone has that feature and i don't need to pay for extra services......

  • Answer:

You will probably have to pay extra for caller id...call your phone company for prices...sometimes you can get a package with multiple features that is a better deal. You want to block certain numbers...there is a feature called selective call rejection...this is where you can program certain numbers that cannot be completed to your phone. There is also a feature called anonymous call rejection...this will reject blocked numbers...where people have private, or blocked numbers. As for POP ID...POP just stands for "point of presence". I am not sure where you found this term, but I usually use POP when dealing with DSL...it is telephony jargon, and not usually used to describe service to customers. there is another term: POTS...this is "plain old telephone service" another industry term.
