How to build a 'Tin Can Phone'?

  • What prcedure and materials will I need to build/make a classic tin can phone, like the famous ones in movies?

  • Answer:

    Use two tin cans, or plastic or paper cups, and string. Clean and dry the cans and remove any sharp edges. Punch a hole in the bottom of each can. Insert the string and tie a know to secure it. This works based on sound waves...they are created as the air vibrates in response to sounds. When the string is taunt and someone spesks, the bottom acts as a diaphragm and converts the sound from one can to the other.

As all of above and kite string works quite well and if you "wax" it or coat it with violin bow resin it works even better.
