Answer:
Before you switch to Vonage, check out the company I will be switching to as soon as their service is available in the UK, the US service has been operating for a year. Go to this web site www.iolair.acnrep.com on the opening page click on the SELECT YOUR COUNTRY button, then on the US flag, you will find the details on the service under products. What I can tell you is this service is way ahead of any other and my friends in the US who use it say it is excellent. Hope this helps. Douglas

All I know about Vonage is, if you dial 9-1-1 they might not be able to see your address. So if you're hiding in your closet because there is a burglar in your house and you cannot talk, they won't be able to send help until you talk, which might get you killed. I'm not B.S.ing you, you can research it.

Don't do it. There is a new product on the market that works just like vonage but is so much cheaper. I personal had vonyage and ended up paying $360 a year. The product I am talking about is called magicjack. It works just like vonage but you pay $40.00 for the unit and thats all you pay for 1 year after that it's $19.95. All you have to have is highspeed internet and a USB connection. The unit will set it self up in like 3-5 minutes. Check it out for youself at magicjack.com.

maybe its just me but..... it they connect it to you Internet (i dont mean that i have dial up) and it disconnects when your Internet is down and then you alarm goes off like mad!!! and you often get calls and as soon as you pick up the line discontents and will stay disconnected for the next 2 or 3 minutes (this is SO annoying because the person is trying to call you again during those 2 or 3 minutes) and sometimes for like 2 or more hours all of the phones in your house will say 'searching' and you cant make outgoing calls or receive calls (this doesnt happen tooo often just maybe once a month) but you get amazing plans such as free phone calls to europe canada usa and most of which my family and i use quite often south america and they give very good service

Dont do it. It maybe cheap but it does not worth the hassle. Too much problems with customer service. If you port you number into vonage and trying to port it out back you will face one hell of a time. They do it to trap customers.

Vonage Canada, where I live, is much too expensive to even consider, so I use and like InPhonex and CallCentric (links through my profile).

With the legal and financial issues Vonage has had recently I'd be very wary of using them. Not sure how much longer they'll be around....and/or if they'll jack up their prices again. I'd suggest you look at Packet8 or VoIP.com as options. Link provided which has info on both.
