My Xbox live disconnects everytime someone picks up my home phone?

My room doesnt have an ethernet jack so i had to use my modem to connect to a phone jack and then plug my xbox ethernet into my modem. I know i have to use a wire splitter but i dont know how to make it work. do i need to have a home phone in my room and connect that line to the other jack in the splitter? im lost lol please heelp!

OK... EVERY phone, fax, satellite box, alarm system, etc... that connects to the phone line needs to have a DSL filter connected to it... the modem should NOT be connected to a filter... if your modem or router is wireless.. and you have 2.4Ghz phones, then you need to log into your router and turn the wireless off if you do not use it, or change the channel that it operates on...
