Answer:
Magic Jack is great for the money It's as cheap as it can get. I've used it for more than a year. IMHO it's great value. You can't beat free long distance anywhere in Canada or the U. S. It's a real money saver and works very well. although occasionally you may get a dropped call or minor interference, dropped calls are few and far between. The only time in my experience it isn't really good and you may get a lot of interference is if you are burning a DVD or cd.Several friends and relatives have also bought it and we are all extremely satisfied. Although I turn my computer off at night, calls are still answered and I receive the messages from the server the next time I boot up. http://www.magicjack.com/6/faq/ The 1st year it costs you 40.00U.S. from then on $20.00 per year. In Canada where I live it's $50.00 the first year which includes buying it plus$10.00 for a Canadian area code, the 2nd year it's$20.00 A suggestion. Buy it from a local retailer, try it out, if it doesn't suit return it to the retailer for a refund. If you buy online or from an info commercial and run into a problem it may take some time to get a refund from magic jack. By mistake I triple ordered using the info commercial and although they advertised that charges wouldn't be processed for 30 days my visa card was charged immediately. I returned the 2 extra magic jacks for a refund but it took more than a month to get the credit. Another suggestion, after buying make the transition from your current provider gradually don'tget rid of your current line until you've tried magic jack for awhile. and are satisfied

It is a okay service. The call quality is similar to a cell phone service. I haven't had any bad service with it. You get voice mail with your one year of service when you purchase the Magic Jack for 40.00. You also get a phone number with your area code so that you others can call you. After your year is up you would need to purchase a additional one year service for 20.00. The only disadvantage with Magic Jack is your computer needs to be on all the time. If you turn off your computer or your computer powers down than you can't make or receive calls. Not a very reliable way for a telephone service.

If U search yahoo answers here, U will get a lot of info on magic jack. I would only advise using magic jack if U had an extra laptop that U could connect the magic jack to it, and leave it on all the time. A memory card hard drive would be a good idea too. U don't want to connect a magic jack to your main computer because it can cause problems, and it is not easy to remove the software. Also, but plugging the magic jack into any computer in you agree that magic jack can collect and transmit all info on you from that computer and transmit to the magic jack company to use for marketing purposes. I would suggest using Ooma instead. I haven't used it yet, but it seems to be a much better choice. The down side of it that U have to pay about $150-$200 for the equipment.

Let's see. You want to replace a $50 a month service for a $2 a month service and you think the quality will be the same? LOL MJ is a toy. It is good for testing or a spare phone line, but it is not a service I'd depend on to make and receive calls on. First of all, it requires your computer to be on to send or receive calls. It may or may not have service in your city, and quality isn't the greatest (but just think of the money you're saving). For my money, I'd look to reduce the primary bill with something like Phone Power. For $200, you get 2 years of service, 2 lines, and can usually port your present phone number to the box. You get a 30 day trial for the price of the adapter, and you may find they waive that fee. Or, you can go month to month for $16 or on a contract for about $14.
