Do I need to have my phone line connected to Sky?

Does your sky plus box have to be connected to a phone line all the time?

    As far as I know, you need it to be plugged in for the first year if you got a special installation deal where that was a condition. They're pretty clear about this when you sign up. After that, no. When I unplugged the phone line in the first year, the box eventually stopped me watching Sky with a message saying 'please connect your box to a phone line'.

no mines not plugged in but do get a call from sky now and again but say dog chewed through wire

I have had a contract taken out this year, they say it must be connected but I took it out. Why must it be connected? though, I don't have movies or sports?. Conspiracy theorists think because it sends back to them your viewing habits, thus they can add it to your customer profile. If you get a message on screen just press backup. If you get a phone call, tell them it's up to you whether you connect it, the phone line is yours (the wire is) thus it's up to you where you put it, and they can cancel the contract if they wish. They won't. Unless they provide a phone wire for you to connect, sockets for you to connect it to, you don't have to do anything , you only have to provide a phone connection for activation, but the engineer can do this with his mobile.

It doesn't have to be connected at all once it is set up. The phone thing is just a way for BSkyB to make extra money. I have had Sky for 10 years and have never connected my phone.

The Sky Box has to be connected at all times to a phone line for the duration of your contract (usally 12 months) Sky do check this and will contact you or send you a letter if they do not see the phone line connected. They can cancel your contract if you don't do this.

it is suppose to but i disconnected mine straight away. you can not use some services if you are not connected like ordering movies for example. it says in your contract that it must be connected to the phone line for 12 months i think. if the inquire tell them you moved it to a different room with no phone line the said that was no problem. you can also just plug the phone line in when you need to by using a phone extension lead and take it out when your finished.
