Does Vonage Slow Internet Connection?

Do you HAVE to have internet connection to use Vonage?

  • Ok so I signed up for vonage(for my dad) and i dont know if someone has to go to the house to connect the telephone wires to the wires outside or if i need an internet conection in my dads house? i am going to call vonage right now but i just needed to know this first.

  • Answer:

Yes, you need to have HighSpeed Internet for any VoIP service to work satisfactory. Vonage will not come to your house. They mail the equipment to your address (unless you bought it in a store) and you have to unpack and install it yourself. You will need to have your HighSpeed Internet up and running before you can connect your Vonage service. VoIP does not need your house telephone wires to work. Once connected to your Internet, you just plug a regular, or cordless, telephone into the VoIP adapter box. You cannot connect the VoIP box to your house telephone wiring until you disconnect the wires from the outside telephone service at the "Demacation Box". Only once disconnected from external phone system, you can then connect the VoIP box to your house phone jacks for distribution throughout your house. But, it may be easier to just connect a cordless phone system to the VoIP box and use cordless phones around the house. This way there is no house wiring to mess with.
