Why does my internet cut out when the phone rings?

Noise on phone line and internet drops when a phone rings, or if anyone uses the phone?

  • Iv had this ever since I got broadband, and it's really annoying. I live above a restaurant which uses the same phone line, so when customers call in, the internet cuts off. The same thing happens with all 3 of the ISPs that I have used, Orange, Eclipse and O2. All the phones and devices have filters. We live 2 floors above the main phone socket, so there is some length of wiring. Which shouldn't be the problem, because I tested it in the main socket, and the same thing happens. Does the type of filter affect it? I'm with O2 which is ADSL2, but 2 out of 4 of my filters are ADSL. I have also had static noise coming out of the phones, and sometimes I can hear those strange beeps and fuzzes in the phone (like the old dial up modems) ones. Even though I can call someone, the internet does cut off. Please help!

  • Answer:

I had a similar problem, and ended up using TWO DSL filters for each phone.!! (I also cancelled call waiting.) Otherwise, call your phone repair service..
