Where can i purchase a calling card to use over in Italy?

How does a calling card work?

  • So i'm going on a cruise outside of the US and when the boat is docked I want to be able to use my phone, roaming charges are outrageous and I heard something about calling cards? If I purchase a calling card does that still apply the crazy roaming fee?

    Yes it does unless you use a phone on the cruise you can call the toll free number then it will tell you too enter your pin number the part you scratch and then you can enter the number you would like to call.

I have only used calling cards with land line phones. When ready to make a call dial the toll free number which is computer and then it beeps or gives a msg, then you enter the number you are calling and the cost is charged to the pre-paid card. The card usually explains the charges. Your cell phone charges are a whole different story. They vary from cell plan to cell plan. Call your provider and ask them how it works. It use to be your cell phone charges were very high when on the water. Ask about international waters vs when boat is docked.

Yes, the roaming fee will still apply. I have only used calling cards from landline phones. I would never use them with a cellphone, I think that is just common sense.
