How do you wire a telephone extension?

Can I use telephone wire as jumper wire?

  • I was wondering if i can separate telephone wire and use it as a jumper wire on an arduino. It only needs 5v to go through it.

  • Answer:

Why not? Since you can use kynar (30 ga) wire for point to point, the 24 ga solid telephone wire would work just fine. Problem is you really need to find some "cat 3" vs. Cat 5/5e. IIRC kynar is pretty cheap in rolls.

i wouldn't use line cord as it is stranded, and the strands easily break.. but if you were to use CAT3 or CAT5 or even CAT6 solid core wire it should not be a problem at all.. I use CAT5 for 12VDC power all the time, but I usually double up on the pairs.. CAT5 is usually 24AWG to 22AWG... do not know how long of a jumper you are going to need, just keep in mind the maximum amperage that can be run thru the wire that you choose to use...

Yes, but don't do it! That's extremely dangerous, there's a reason why jumper cables were made...

Sure! Electrocute yourself!

Any type of 24-22 awg wire should work for you.
