How can I stop people from listening to my phone conversations?
-
My neighbor can hear my phone conversations when I am using my cordless phone . I know she has a police scanner and cordless phone. Can someone give me some good advice of how to stop this? Is this against the law listening to others phone conversations?

Answer:
buy a new phone. it is legal to listen to phone calls on older - non encrypted phones. it is illegal to use any information learned while listening to phone calls. even with receiving equipment that goes up to 6.0GHz, calls are encrypted and encryption equipment is difficult to get, unless you are the FCC or NSA etc.

Tell here to butt out, tell her you know because you have a device that lets you know that you are being ease dropped on. Tell her the device says the listener is less than 150 feet away. Blah blah. Bluffing? yes, but she will freak out for being caught "Red Handed" so to speak.

This is where DECT 6.0 phones shine..... Encryption... DECT 6.0 phones "Encrypt" all communications between the handsets and base unit. There is no way anyone can snoop on cordless DECT 6.0 conversations. Best advice would be to get a DECT 6.0 phone. -------------------- P.S. The laws regarding "eavesdroping" and taping phone conversations vary from state to state. In many states, "eavesdroping", which would include intercepting cordless phone conversations, is also illegal. http://www.rcfp.org/taping/

Use a digital cordless phone, such as DECT 6.0 or DSS. It's unlikely that a private person can still eavesdrop. All eavesdropping to telephone communication without permission of one (possibly both, depending on state law) of the parties or a warrant is illegal in the US (ignoring FISA issues if one of the parties is not a US national).

Use a wired phone or get a cel phone. Scanners can't receive frequencies over 1300 MHz. Most of today's cordless phones are in the 2.4 GHz, 5.8 GHz, and the new Dect 6.0 which is 1920 MHz, and they are all digital, so unless your using a 900 MHz or an old fashioned 49 MHz cordless analog phone you can't be scanned. And its not illegal to listen to any frequency, but if one were to repeat what they heard, then its illegal. You can check out the Laws of listening on the FCC web site.

I believe that the Dect6 protocol stops others listening in.
