How do I sync my old phone numbers to my iPhone?

How do I sync my Facebook friends' phone numbers/info onto my iPhone?

I got the iPhone 4S today for Verizon. I've been trying all day to sync my contacts from Facebook into my phone. My old phone synced phone numbers, birthdates, emails and pictures. How do I do that on the iPhone? If I add a contact to my phone and then sync it to Facebook, their picture will sync but nothing else. Is this just how it is with the iPhone? I'm pretty disappointed if it is; my old phone was a Palm Pre and it just automatically synced everything. The iPhone is supposed to be superior to other phones, but all of my friends who have HTCs and such can sync automatically. Please help!!
