How do I know a cell phone I purchase on Ebay will work with my current sim card?
-
I have Centennial Wireless, which is primarily Mid-West. I have a terrible phone that doesn't work right (the 3rd one i've had and I started with a Razr) and they keep wanting me to trade it in on my insurance claim for a even crappier phone. I have been looking on ebay but how do I know that my sim card is compatible with some of these ebay phones?

Answer:
If the phone in question is unlocked then it will work. Otherwise you'd more than likely have to do that first for it to work. Oh & make sure it corresponds with your carrier type. If they use SIM cards (GSM) make sure it is a GSM phone, if not (CDMA) then make sure you get one of those

I think you should search the frequency (800 MHz, 1900 MHz, 1800 Mhz, etc) of your sim card and then find out is it same with the frequencies that the phone compatible with

The phones on eBay will say "Unlocked Gsm phone" and then what kind of phone it is, and will say all of the companies that it's compatible with.

you want to look for a Centennial Wireless BRANDED phone .. failing to find one. Then look for an unlocked GSM phone, it will work on your voice and text but may not on the internet and MMS. You can always call them and have them walk you thru changing settings to see if you can get it to work. (stay away from Tmobile if internet access is important to you since those phones are not able to be updated to other networks intenet)

Since you use a sim card, you have GSM service. So you are looking for an unlocked GSM phone. The next thing you have to look at is the frequencies. You want to look for a quad-band phone to make sure it will work anywhere in the US. Tri-band phones will work in most cities, but not everywhere. If you are unsure you can call your service provider and ask them which frequencies they use in your area - if they say they use the 850 frequency, then you definitely need a quad-band phone.

you have to make sure it is your carrier.. if it doesnt say what carrier, like at&t or verizon, then try to avoid it.

If the phone is unlocked it will work as far as phoning and texting SMS is concerned but you may need to reconfigure the phone so you can use MMS an the Wap or internet, this can be difficult at times and even impossible, so ask the seller the question to be very sure before you buy, I have bought quite a few this way and at times it was not possible to get all the bits working.

You just have to make sure the cell phone is unlocked and you can then use any sim card anywhere in the world.
