How to connect blackberry 8520 to wifi?

Blackberry 8520 WIFI Help!?

• Okay so, i bought a Blackberry 8520 recently on contract from Orange and it has 500mb internet but in my house i have wifi an i have been told that if you use wifi it does not use up your mb and its free, so i connect it to wifi and then it says 'Orange - My Wifi Name' But the little wifi object in the corner of the screen is dim, so i turn my mobile network off, and leave wifi on but i don't get notifications like messages etc.... Is there a way i can fix this so i only use my wifi and that the object will light up and so i don't use GPRS and EDGE? Thank You And Someone Please Reply Quickly And Will Get Thumbs Up.

  Hi Bob, going into offline mode is a very good way to make sure you do not incur GPRS charges but when you turn your mobile network off, you are cutting yourself from any services provided by your operator. You will not be able to receive any SMS/MMS or even phone calls. To prevent myself from accidentally using GPRS when I'm on WiFi, I will first change my GPRS settings slightly to make it invalid. I do this by taking or adding 1 letter into my APN when I am planning to surf for a long time and then switch back when I'm done.
