Where do I go to fix my phone?

Where can I go to fix a wet phone?

  • My friend accidentally put her phone through the wash and normally I would advise her to go to her local Sprint or Cingular, depending which carrier she had, but unfortunately, she brought this phone back from the Philippines. Any suggestions?

  • Answer:

If all the other suggestions don't work, here is the only option: Remove the battery and put it in the oven (NOT THE MICROWAVE) on VERY LOW HEAT. Leave it in there for 3 or 4 hrs. Let it cool for an hour or so, put the battery back in and try it. If there's any shot at saving it, this is it. P.S. You may have to get a new battery

She has to buy a new phone. Nothing she can do. That little white dot turns red the phone is useless and even if it was by one of those carriers and she had insurance on it they wouldn't replace it. Water damage doesn't fall under the insurance.

tell her to take out the battery and let it dry out for a few days. i did that and it works fine now.

After the phone's been through the wash, it's shot...well, if it's been through the dryer. If it wasn't, she could lay it out to dry and there's a chance it would work perfectly. But if she put it through the dryer, then it's broken. The phone was not meant to survive through extreme heat, and there's no way to fix it. She'll have to get a replacement phone. If she thinks there is a way to fix it (like it still turns on, or still responds to the charger, or something that lets you know not everything is shot) then go to some local electronics store - even like a Best Buy - and they might be able to fix it or they would know who to go to. My mom put her phone in the washer (but not the dryer) and it didn't dry out, no one could fix it even though the water damage button wasn't red, so she had to buy a new phone. I ran mine under the sink, laid it out to dry, and it never worked again - but water damage wasn't showing so I got it replaced for free. So good luck! Oh, and DO NOT put the phone in the oven! It will kill your phone and any chance it has of working will go away! And it is dangerous for the oven as well!

You need to try Silica Gel Packets. There was a good article on associatedcontent.com that explains how to dry a wet cell phone, iPods, or any electronics. You need to place your cell phone in a zip lock bag with Silica Gel Packets. Silica Gel will remove all the moisture from the phone and its components, something air drying will not do! Just Google "Silica Gel Packets" and you will find several companies selling these products. There is also a web site called: http://www.SilicaGelPackets.com that has them.

Now its too late otherwise whenever your phone get wet open it as much as you can like sim card, Memory Card and battery. And shack it very hard so if there is some water stuck inside it will come out and put it in strong sun light if possible.

Take out the battery and put the phone in the airing cupboard for 48hrs and then try it again. Mate of mine had a phone that went Scuba diving in a beer and the repair shop said it was a no hoper because of corrosion and provided photos.

Dad's found yer scoo'er

Place it in a bowl of dry rice for a few days. The rice will absorb the moisture.
