No, it is free to have, there is no monthly charge. It is also free if you are calling from Skype user to Skype user (Computer to Computer over the internet). The only time you have to pay money is if you want to call a land line or a cellphone (a fixed line). Then you just buy some credits and use them up as you make your calls. They do not expire as long as you make a call every four months.

umm you can call from pc to pc which is totally free. But if u want to call a house or an office or whatever it does cost money

if u want to call actual phones, but if u call other people with a skypke client, then its free. so basically it can be like a talking instant messanger if other people have the client

No. You can make international online video phone calls on your computer with it. It is amazing. A couple others that do the same thing are: sightspeed & msn messenger, but I mostly use Skype.
