Can you get on the internet with the T-Mobile Blackberry 9700 wifi with out having a data plan?

I asked because my friend has a AT&T Blackberry 9700 and he gets on the internet using wifi with no type of plan but i tried to get on the internet using my other friend's phone (T-mobile Blackberry 9700) and the web was not working i wanted to know if yall have any clues. Thank you

Hi Barry, yes you can get on WiFi without a data plan.. in fact, you can use WiFi even while your phone is in offline mode or without a SIM card. The reason for this, is because WiFi is a phone function and it has absolutely nothing to do with your mobile service provider. To get on WiFi, you will need 3 things. 1. A WiFi enabled phone 2. A wireless router connected to your home broadband connection 3. Settings for your home broadband connection.
