How to convince my parents to let me get a cellphone?

  • They say im 13 i dont need a cell phone when everyone in my class has a cell and im the odd man out i know a 2nd grader that has a cell. I just want a cell plus they say i dont need one and i jus want one cuz my friends have one. Does anyhave any full time plans on how to convince my parents to buy a cell phone or change there mind to buying me a cell phone real soon.

    You're 13...and I'd have to agree with them. I'm 25...and I'm not sure how much has changed since I was 13, but I definitely didn't NEED a cellphone back then. Sounds like you just want one for the exact reason they stated...your friends have one. I wouldn't let my kids have a cellphone either, unless... They get a job and pay for it themselves like I did. Do your parents have cell phones? If so, maybe you can persuade them to add an extra phone to the plan if you offer to pay for your share with either money, or jobs around the house. Either way...show some maturity and responsibility by not coming off as a spoiled kid who wants something because all his friends have it and it's the cool thing to have. Besides, you don't drive. How much could you possibly need a cell phone if you don't even drive? Have your friends call you at home. Can't you see their point? Since you probably want them to pay for it, you'll have no concept of taking care of the bill. So, given that you're 13 and that you understandably want to keep in contact with your friends, you'll probably run up the bill to some ridiculous amount. Wait it out for another 3 years and then raise the valid argument that you should have a cellphone for safety reasons while you drive. ...good luck.

Hmmm is your parents worried about you having a cellphone or the minutes you are going to incurr? If its the latter, try convincing them to get you prepaid cards. Once the value of the cards are finished, you will need to top them up. This way both your parents and yourself can track your usage.

Have you considered the facts yourself? Cell phones and the plans, no matter how cheap, cost money that your parents may not be willing (or able) to dish out for you every month just so you fit in better in class. You are too young to have a cell phone, i believe...a cell phone comes with a lot of responsibility. If your only reason to have a cell phone is because you feel left out by not having one, then you definitely don't need one. In my opinion, a teenager should be allowed to have one at the age of 16 when he/she is beginning to drive and often go out with friends. Also, at that age, can start earning their own money to help out with the bill. Be patient and wait a few years.

I got my first cell in the 5th grade...i agree with u kids do sometimes need a phone, like in my case i needed to call my family to see who was going to pick me up...just use the excuse what if i get kidnapped or need a ride after school..just be clever...hope u get one..

dude. just say you will pay for your minutes, all they have to do is sign for the phone. tell them you will by the phone your self man.. you seem like a pretty kool kidd. just dont be mean abotu it or say youll work for the minutes or work for the phone. just try man, remeber never give up. much luck man, and if you have myspace add me bro..

Cell phones are not necessary. I hate to say this to you, but as a 13 year old you do not need one. During the day, you will be in school, and will not need to call anyone. In the evenings, you will be at home, where there is a home phone I'm sure. And if you're at the mall or something and are calling for a ride, I'm sure one of your friends will have one, and if not, 50 cents will get you a call at a phone booth. But......... If you really want to convince them, say that using the cell phone, no matter where you are, your parents can always get a hold of you, and you them, in case something happens.
