Research on the internet the lowest price plans, if shows you are serious about this. there ya go. And present this in a mature manner. Not "BUT I WANNNNNNT IT!" They could also be worried about you losing it, or going over the minutes, try a prepaid phone.

You should let them know how dangerous these streets are! This ain't the 1950's! What if you are stranded somewhere with no cash, a cell phone would make a world of difference. Remind them of times when you showed yourself to be very responsible! Just be extremely sincere and help out around the house.
