How do I know what generation iPhone I have?

I want to know the exact realease date of the 3g iphone 2nd generation?

    the date has not been released, but it is scheduled to be released this year...what month really all depends on Japan. The only reason why is because Japan uses 3G technology so if they want part of the Japanese pie, they have to release 3G versions of their iPhones. Rumor has it that its between two cell phone company and apple will give exclusive to just one of them....more money that way. Dokomo is one of that company. They actually have a deadline and Apple wants to start shipping phones by end of Feb. But again thats just the talk of the town, nothing official. I'd wait cause the new or 3g phones that come out will be unlocked and you can sign it up anywhere with anyone with a 3G network. And you'll be able to add 3rd party applications.
