Is there any way to repair a water damaged phone?

Best, easiest, and safest way to fix a a water damaged iPhone?

  • I am answering my own question here for those of you who have gotten your iPhone wet and don't want to ruin it. Apple will not fix water damaged phones, and the iPhone has detector strips that lets them know if it has gotten even slightly wet. The phone I will discuss is a 3GS model. I dropped my phone into a river. It was on, but shut off when it went under water. It wouldn't turn on. 1. DON'T TRY AND PLUG IN OR TURN ON YOUR WET IPHONE. Even if it is dry on the outside the water inside will "fry" what chances are left of saving your phone. I turned mine on way to soon and it flickered and shut off. I was lucky it didn't kill it. 2. The idea is to get ALL the moisture out of the phone before even testing it. This is pretty easy. -Pop the SIM card out of the top of the phone. Use a paper clip to put in the small hole on the top of the phone and the card will pop out. Leave the card and little tray out of the phone. -If you can find a screwdriver small enough (the type used for working on glasses should work), unscrew the two bottom screws on the phone, but don't try and open the phone. -Place the phone screen-up (without SIM card and screws, put these aside for now) into a small bowl or tupperware type container and cover with dry uncooked rice. Cover the phone about an inch with rice. - Place an office lamp so it shines directly onto the rice bowl. Enough to generate warmth on the rice, but no so close it is a fire hazard or can melt the container if it is plastic. No matter the distance it cannot hurt the phone. -Let the iPhone sit it the rice bowl with the lamp shining on it for at least 5 days, then give it a try. You may not have a phone for a few days, but its better than losing $400-600. My phone was completely submerged and was not working and now it is fully functional.

Thanks for your tips. Another one is to put it in a baggie and then in a bowl of rice to absorb the liquid.
