Can someone else be using my cell phone?
-
Recently I received my cell phone bill in the mail and it was wrong. I had been charged $3.00 in 411 calls I did not make. When I took a look at my bill I noticed there where many calls all on one day from 12am to 3pm to numbers outside of where I was. I was asleep when the first calls where made and at work with my phone by my side when the others where made, the calls where all made to local cell phones and doctors. The towers that the signals came off of where 2 hours from me, there is no way that I could have made these calls, and I know I had my phone with me the whole day. How could this happen? Any ideas? I did call the cell phone company and they said they would get back to me. I am worried that someone may I have hacked into my cell phone number. Any ideas??

Answer:
The only way for someone else to use your phone would be to do something that is called "cloning". It is not something easily done and and very unlikely to happen. I'm pretty sure your cellphone carrier made a billing mistake or someone got a hold of your phone. I would call them and go over your bill.

Yes, this happens. Keep bugging your cell company. I had a boss this happened to several times, it was a pain because whoever was using his number was racking up really large bills.

Did you see the movie National Treasure 2? In the movie they clone the Dad's cell phone so that basically two different people had a phone with the same number. Either or Both could answer calls or texts sent to the phone. maybe its something like that.

take it to your provider, someone may have given you an identical ssn (subscrber serial number)

I don't think someone hacked into your phone. But I do think there may be something wrong with your software that is causing these problems. I would take it into a store and have a technician check it out. My phone did this with 911 and 411. For some reason my phones software was causing this it was also buying music. Yet the music wasn't on the phone so they knew it was the software. Hope this gets figured out. But I would definitely take it in.
